Bitten off more than I can chew? Literally?
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009Continuing on my mission to teach the world the correct meaning of the word “Literally” this time I successfully *literally* “bit off more than I can chew”.
This was a considerable ordeal - entering the circus that is the competitive eating circuit. In competitive eating - you have a set time to eat as much as possible, and then 30 seconds to finish what is in your mouth. So, as the last 10 seconds is counted down competitive eaters cram food into their mouths manually, literally biting off more than they can chew.
It has a happy ending fortunately, though I did not win the contest, I won £250. And that paid for my wife’s wedding ring. You have no idea how proud my mother-in-law is of this fact. Watch this wonderful film made by my friend James, and enjoy.
Viewers notes:
- Yes, that is people’s champion, It’s a KnockOut, sports commentator par excellence, Stuart Hall compereing and commentating the event.
- Yes he does get confused when I reply that I eat “people” for breakfast. I obviously mean that figuratively, not literally.
- No, I don’t regular enter competitive eating competitions. This was my first and my last.
